The Region: The splendid Friuli Venezia Giulia is one of the five Italian autonomous regions with special statute. It has beautiful art cities with an interesting history, wonderful mountains and wonderful beaches. The region can be divided in two main areas: a mountainous area in the north and the adriatic coastal area in the south, with its famous seaside resorts like Lignano Sabbiadoro and Grado


The Coast: The coast is 130 km long, 23 marinas that have places for 15,000 boats, moorings, yards, and a well equipped net of services. Friuli Venezia Giulia, where the Mediterranean Sea enters Europe in its northest point, is the ideal destination if you are the happy owners of a leisure boat, ore just if you want to taste the emotion of your first vacation in boat! For the boat lovers, there are hundreds of boat races that the nautical circles organize every year and of course the Barcolana , the traditional appointment in October in the Gulf of Trieste, where more than 2,000 boats compete. Trieste The population of Trieste is an ethnic mix from neighbouring regions.Throughout the history, Trieste has been influenced by its geographic position at the crossroads of Germanic, Latin and Slavic culture. Here the ethnies, the religions, the languages and the folkore are mixed, in the frame of the wonderful nature of the Carso. Trieste is a unique city thanks to its public square with a side facing the sea.

Udine Udine is an important art city, embracing every époques: you will find Caravaggio's masterpieces in the Gallery of Ancient Art, as well Modigliani and Sironi's works in the Gallery of Modern Art. In the Villa Manin, in Passariano, an extraordinary building from 1650 a few kilometers from the city, don't forget to visit the new Center of Contemporary Art, opened in 2004. There are important worth-a-visit monuments: in the 16th-century Piazza della Libertà, at the foot of the castle, is Palazzo del Comune (15th century GothicVenetian style), Porticato di S. Giovanni, an elegant Renaissance loggia (16th century), Torre dell'Orologio (16th century clock tower); not far away stands the Duomo (14th century, restructured in the 18th century, with a rich interior), with the adjacent Oratorio della Purita (18th century, paintings by Tiepolo), church of S. Maria del Castello (12th-13th century with 13th century frescoes), Palazzo Arcivescovile (16th-18th century). When you are here, we recommend you to visit the historical coffees and in stop in a tavern for a "tajut", the traditional glass of Tocai!

Aquileia (UD) Aquileia is one of the most interesting place in the entire region, for what concerns archaeology and the art history. Aquileia, attested to be the largest Roman city yet to be excavated, is inscribed on the World Heritage List. The Patriarchal Basilican Complex in Aquileia played a very important role in the spread of Christianity into central Europe in the early Middle Ages.

Grado (GO) The City of Grado, also known as the “Island of Gold” for its golden arena, represents one of the most fascinating and evocative tourist localities of the Adriatic. Don't miss the splendid beaches, the blue sea, the lagoon, the thermal baths, the hotels, the villages, the residence, the restaurants, the food and wine routes, its folkloristic manifestations, the local traditions, the colorful “calluses” in the historical center, the ancient paleocristian Basilica, make the city of Grado an unique destination in the Italian panorama, of the tourist places. The City is situated in the southern part of the province of Gorizia on an island between the lagoon of Grado and the Adriatic Sea. The settled area, connected to the mainland by a long artificial causeway, includes a colorful ancient nucleus of lagoon, where the most recent quarters are developping. During the summer period, but also during the year, Grado boasts a rich program of manifestations (tourist, cultural, sport and entertainment).

Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD) Lignano is one of the most important summer resorts in Italy; its name "Sabbiadoro" means "Golden Sand". Its beach is 8 km of fine sand, facing the sea and the lushy pine-forest that partially covers the peninsula. Well known tourist resort, Lignano is will satisfy every tourist kind of holiday: the hotels, the villages, the residence, the restaurants, the navy, without forgetting the great variety of entertainments.
